Dell vs HP: Dell Overtakes HP

Dell has finally overtaken its arch-rival HP in the desktop PC segment on September quarter of 2010 and came out No.1 in terms of overall shipments including laptops. Higher marketing spending and better product promotion strategies helped Dell achieved this success over HP.

Market research firms IDC and Gartner shows DEll gaining 17% of market share against HP’s 13-14% in September of this year. IN IDC’s study released on Friday, Dell gained primarily on desktop sale at Indian market for the first time with 9.8% on market share, followed by rival HP on second, and Acer on third.

The takeover of market share is considered by Dell a sea-change and breakthrough from the year-ago period when Dell was behind 6% from HP’s 16% market share, while Dell struggling with 10%.

JooJoo Tablet PC Phases Out

JooJoo, a tablet computer that started up last year and released last February is being discontinued. Fusion Garage, JooJoo’s maker won’t be updating its software, nor developing any new JooJoo products. Instead, Fusion Garage plans to develop new devices with larger or smaller screens and will be available on 2011.

High-profile technology blogger Michael Arrington of TechCrunch sued Fusion Garage in late 2009 after the implosion of a joint effort between the two companies to build the CrunchPad, a cheap tablet for Web surfing. Fusion Garage announced it would sell the device under a new name, without Arrington’s involvement.

Fusion Garage released JooJoo last February for $500 and won’t reveal the real number of units sold.

The federal lawsuit filed by Arrington is ongoing.

$1,000 Cash Plus 10% Salary Increase For Google Employees on 2010

While America and the rest of the world is still suffering from recession, Google Employees are celebrating coming 2011. Report says the increase will be implemented on January 2011 across all Google Offices wordwide. According to Henry Blodget of Business Insider, Google would also give its employee an additional raise equivalent to employee’s target bonus for 2011, with Google paying for the taxes on the cash bonuses.

Google is one of the top employers in the world and is listed number 4 in Fortune’s lists of 200 best companies to work with. It is also one of the top target of students to work after graduation.

With around 23,331 employees worldwide, Google is expected to give away hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses and even more in salary increase. Google is still the leading and number one online business having billions of dollars in annual net income.

Google is also the top choice of students in the field of business and engineering. 130,000 students made Google their top choice as the most attractive employer, in a survey released last September by Universum.

Though a few perks have been cut in recent years, Google last year increased 401(k) matching and added a stock-option exchange program to help employees with underwater options. And engineers still get to devote 20% of their time to projects of their choosing,” explained Fortune why it ranked Google as fourth in the list.
